Description
The suspicious place name »Bukpui« (large nest, if not bat cave) is shown near N24°12': E093°15' (unspecified map datum probably Everest 1830) on the map »Mizoram leh a Chhehvêl« (produced by RALTE, C Vawra, circa 1997 s.a.) and as »Bukpi« on AMS sheet NG46-15 Imphal (U502 series, 1960 edition). ETYMOLOGY: The Mizo "bak" signifies rather a »bat« (note 1), Chiroptera, than a »bat« (note 2), "puk" is the word for »cave« and "pui" means »big, large« (LORRAIN, J H 1940). SITUATION: About 10 km in a direct line approximately south-east of Thanlon (N24°17': E093°17' nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003).
