Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified caves (or so) of dubious character (apparently a natural sacred temple cave or a man-made cave temple) in unspecified host rock (perhaps excavated from Deccan Trap) recorded the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India), Aurangabad Circle, under the title Kuda Caves, Kuda Jijamata Wada, Pachad (note 2). ETYMOLOGY: Kuda or Kuda Jijamata Wada is rather the name of a populated place (village, etc.) than that of the cave (or so) proper. The term -kuda- signifies a hill or mountain. Jijamata (Jija Mata) seems to be the name of a local (tribal) mother goddess.
