In an attempt to identify ka Krem Pubon –>Amkoi or the Amkoi Cave (BAZELY, P J 1992, 2: 73; LALOO, S S 1995a: 4, 1995b: 4), Andrew -Andy- Peter Tyler (1997.03.05 Mss) looked for this cave in the Pdengshakap circle and was led on 5th March 1997 by U Sah Langiar (then the Pdengshakap village headman) to what gave the impression of being a relatively short cave in boulders. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi ”ka koi” (noun) is not only the word for a kind of fish trap; a fence in the bed of a stream to catch fish but also for a weir (SINGH, N 1906: 44). On the other hand, ”u khoi” is a dish prepared from boiled rice mixed with molasses (SINGH, N 1906: 35) and ”u kui” signifies a lynx (SINGH, N 1906: 51); Zoologically: Felidae var.SITUATION: The not necessarily reliable GPS position N25°12'53”: E092°09'02” (unspecified precision error, unspecified geodetic datum, Andrew -Andy- Peter Tyler 1997.03.05 GPS Garmin 12), Krem AmkoI (Tyler 1997) for the entrance to to the Krem Amkoi (Tyler 1997) indicatesa spot which at linear distance of 2 km south of Pdengshakap (note 1) and in an area where the path southwards crosses a tributary from the north-west to the right bank of the Um Ryngka at a spot about 4.7 km in a direct line approximately north-northeast from Syndai (note 2). APPROACH: The cave entrance to Krem AmkoI is reached by walking from somewhere for some distance into the direction in which the cave entrance lies (Tyler, A P 1997.03.05 Mss).a spot which at linear distance of 2 km south of Pdengshakap (note 1) and in an area where the path southwards crosses a tributary from the north-west to the right bank of the Um Ryngka at a spot about 4.7 km in a direct line approximately north-northeast from Syndai (note 2). APPROACH: The cave entrance to Krem AmkoI is reached by walking from somewhere for some distance into the direction in which the cave entrance lies (Tyler, A P 1997.03.05 Mss).
