Description

Not a cave at all but two abandoned quarries (each approximately 30 m by 50 m wide and about 7 m deep) near Naida village, pointed out as a "cave" on various occasions (December 1998) by local informants. DESCRIPTION 2005: »Outside the city wall are the Naida Caves (Map p665), an intriguing, overgrown network of square-hewn hollows and steps leading off into nowhere. This is where the Portuguese hacked out their building materials« (LONELY PLANET, India (2005: 664). DESCRIPTION 2009: »Outside the city wall are the Naida Caves (Map p751), an intriguing, overgrown network of square-hewn hollows and steps leading off into nowhere. This is where the Portuguese hacked out their building materials« (LONELY PLANET, India 2009: 751-752).– – – – – The one and only "Naida Caves" is not mentioned in LONELY PLANET, India (1997: 718) or LONELY PLANET, North India (2001: 799).
