Description
A relatively big ficus tree covering a huge rock with its roots (note 1) marks the spot where a relatively small spring of water is somehow associated with a relatively narrow crack of unidentified dimensions and unspecified orientation, which gives the impression of constituting a relatively narrow [cave] entrance with unidentified dimensions and unspecified orientation (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known cave name has been identified for what christened Krem Lar Ih 2 because the area is called Lar Ih (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011). SITUATION: On the one-hand side, the relatively small spring and a narrow [cave?] entrance lies not only at an unidentified location under a comparatively big ficus tree covering a huge rock with its roots and in unidentified spatial relations to several cave entrances in a closure called Lar Ih (Arenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011) but also east of the village of Kseh (St. Joseph church near 25°25’24.0”N: 92°35’32.9”E: circa 880 m), opposite across the Kopili, above the orographically right bank of the river, and thus in a terrain officially falling into the North Cachar District (Assam). POSITION: Cdr. Vijay Chhikara (Commander, Indian Navy) is said to have recorded the GPS position (apparently ignored horizontal precision error allegedly ±12 m) N25°26'20.4”: E092°36'46.6” / UTM 46R N2813615 E461082: 758 m asl (WGS84, Chhikara, V 2011.02.22 GPS Garmin e-trex Vista) which was initially thought to fall on the Survey of India sheet 83-C/11 grid square 83-C/11.415 Sah Ser (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011) but later found to fall on 83-C/11.409 Um Suwe (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011). APPROACH (identical with the approach of Krem –>Lr Ih 1): To reach the relatively big ficus tree covering a huge rock with its roots housing a [relatively] small spring and a [relatively] narrow [cave] entrance under it from the village of Kseh (St. Joseph church near 25°25’24.0”N: 92°35’32.9”E: circa 880 m) via the jetty (25°25'49.1”N: 92°36'15.1”E: 717 m) on the orographically left (locally western) bank of the Kopili River (26°15'N: 92°10'E) and about 1.5 km in a direct line ESE from the village, cross the river by boat (ask a briew lieng, in short: 'riewlieng; boatman) for the opposite, orographically right (locally eastern) bank and proceed for an unspecified walking distance along a … foot path in a straight line towards east. At the first junction [at an unidentified GPS position] turn left [in an unidentifified direction]. The path goes first downhill [for an unspecified walking distance] and then uphill [for an unspecified walking distance] into the next valley (modified after Arbenz, Thomas 2011.03.27 Mss Brian K Daly 23st Feb. 2011 Krem Lar Ih 1, 22.2.2011; Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011 Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011). CAVE DESCRIPTION: The relatively narrow [cave] entrance gives access to an unexplored and, at a first glance, relatively narrow crack which was not investigated properly in the sense of not at all (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011). CULTURAL HISTORY: In spite of a big ficus tree (note 3) simply None known (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011).r Ih 1): To reach the relatively big ficus tree covering a huge rock with its roots housing a [relatively] small spring and a [relatively] narrow [cave] entrance under it from the village of Kseh (St. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2011.02.23: Cdr. Vijay Chhikara (Gurgaon, Haryana) and Oana Chachula (Bucharest, Rumania) recorded a GPS position for the entrance to one of several cave entrances in a closure called Lar Ih which was (were?) not investigated properly and, on the other hand, not surveyed (Arbenz, T 2011.04.05 Mss ”Vijay Chhikara 23st Feb. 2011” Krem Lar Ih 2, 23.2.2011).
