Description
A modified natural temple cave (note 1), which is suitably placed at a promising location (note 2) in the city of Bangalore (note 3), the fasted growing urban centre of India, is marketed as a sacred show cave. The well equipped pious site seems to have been only recently fabricated in 1974 as an 2000-year-old cult spot. CAVE DESCRIPTION: The shrine inside the natural cave is dedicated to Sri Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman, Ganesha, Shiv Linga and Nandi, all in stone and a Panchaloha idol of Goddess Rajarajeshwari. The stone Nandi was retrieved during the renovation of cave in 1974. The Yoga Peetha on the left side of the sanctum sanctorum is claimed to be 200 years old and is still in tact [sic! not -rythmic- but intact] while the meditation spot in the cave opposite the temple is ethereal (BALIGA 2003.07.03). CULTURAL HISTORY: The somewhat poor background story (note 4) hardly assists the product's promotion, which, however, is professionally managed by experienced communication desigers (note 5) and plans to extend the venture in the future are promising (note 6). FABULOUS HYDROLOGY: For wonderful stories relating the disappearing and resurging river Kali, see the Asiatic Researches (Calcutta quarto edition / London octavo edition, vol. 3) on Mahácáli, a goddess transformed into a river (page 303) which vanishes and re-appeares to Mahácála as Rájarájèswari (386).A modified natural temple cave (note 1), which is suitably placed at a promising location (note 2) in the city of Bangalore (note 3), the fasted growing urban centre of India, is marketed as a sacred show cave.
