An unspecified, locally known cave is said to exist on one Lum Khongpliang (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item no. 11). ETYMOLOGY: No locally known name has been identified for a cave called after its location, a "Hill" (note 1) resempling a plate or an arrow with a spear head (note 2). SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere on a certain Lum Khongpliang, a hill near one village of Mawkneng (note 3), which is said (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997, personal correspondence) to lie somewhere in the vicinity of Nongstoin (25°30'35”N: 91°16'05”E). CAVE POTENTIAL: Unknown. There are, however, several unidentified "caves" (or so) near Mawkneng, namely: Krem –>Lum Khongpliang (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 11) Krem –>Maweit (Raphael Warjri, Shillong, 1998.02.09, personal communication) Krem –>Wah Dika (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 12). Krem –>Weiklasup (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 10).

NOTE 2: khong (Khasi, adjective) resembling; taking the likeness of (SINGH, N 1906: 34). ka pliang (Khasi, noun, feminine) a plate (SINGH, N 1906: 161); basin, can, plate, utensil, vessel (SINGH, N 1920: 38, 58, 383, 568, 575); plate, trough, vessel (BLAH, E 2007: 226, 314, 325). u pliang (Khasi, noun, masculine) an arrow with a spear head, generally used in warfare and in hunting (SINGH, N 1906: 138). NOTE 3: Mawkneng (Brian D. Kharpran Daly 1997.03.13 Mss; Raphael Warjri 1998.02.09 personal communication), literally: prominent rock / outstanding stone, is neither shown on the Survey of India sheets 78-O/03 (1913), 78-O/04 (1912), 78-O/06 (1913), 78-O/07 (1913), 78-O/08 (1912) nor on AMS sheets NG46-09 Tura and NG46-10 Shillong (U502 series, 1959 edition).
