27.683300,76.450000
Description
Here we have rock art (paintings) not only in cave shelters (note 1) but also on a rock surface outside a cave (BAKSHI 2004.05.11). SITUATION: Somewhere between Hajipur (note 2) and Dhadhiker (note 3), 13 km west of Alwar town (N27°34': E076°36') in certain Balakila Hills (note 4), which are inside a 10 or 12 square km area of the Aravali Range. CULTURAL HISTORY -- rock art: The maroon - white paintings on a rock surface outside a cave carry pictures of Nandi, the Sun god, an elephant, a big fish, humans and what looks like a tribal god. If the antiquity of the painting could be established, it could throw light on both the history of Alwar belt, which comes in the ‘Matsya’ region, as well as that of sun worship, he said. He also claims to have discovered a -dynasty symbol- of the Matsya kingdom. Here we have rock art (paintings) not only in cave shelters (note 1) but also on a rock surface outside a cave (BAKSHI 2004.05.11).
