Location
A footpath from the school house of Sop Chem village leads to the north and soon crosses a small creek. This creek is followed upstream until one has to leave the path to the right and go into the jungle covered steep hillslop. A limestone cliff is quickly reached. History: Explo history: -2002/03: first 100m explored by Dreybrodt & Laumanns/German Lao Speleological Project 2002/2003, not surveyed [4847], [5158] Cave description: The cave consists of an entrance chamber from where a passage of walking size leads further into the mountain. The passage has been formed under phreatic conditions. Unfortunately the guides insisted we turn back in wide open passage after just 100 meters when they saw large centipedes (reportedly poisonous). Thus, Tham Hoengu was not surveyed [5158] Citation: Analysis: Entrance hall with a wide passage that leads deeper into the mountain [4847] Equipment: Remarks: Muang Ngoy Valley, near the village of Sop Chem A foot path leaves the village behind the school to the North and crosses a small creek. The cave is reached after a 10min footwalk where the last 100m are jungel without path. The cave is located at the right side on the higher lying edge of a limestone rim.
