Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A massive, ellipsoid, north facing cave entrance (18 m wide, 11 m high) to 20 m of passage with a rapidly rising floor under a vaulted ceiling to a low distal end with a shallow pool. The western half of the cave appears to have been excavated once and exposes a cave sediment consisting of sandstone boulders rounded by subsoil weathering and embedded in coarse sand. Two concrete water tanks are sunken, probably to supply drinking water for passing pilgrims heading towards Shiva Mandir on Chauragarh Pahar (cow castle hill / cattle fort mountain). Some put up idols might hint to a religious association of the possibly sacred cave. SITUATION: On the right hand side of the way from –>Bada Mahadeo Gufa via –>Gupta Mahadeo Gufa to the hill sanctuary on Chauragarh Pahar, and about 9 or 10 km along the road to the south of –>Pachmarhi or, to pretend precision, at a linear distance of 6.53 km to 183° from the seven way junction (note 1) Jaistambha / Jai Stambh (victory pillar).A massive, ellipsoid, north facing cave entrance (18 m wide, 11 m high) to 20 m of passage with a rapidly rising floor under a vaulted ceiling to a low distal end with a shallow pool.
