Description
A relatively small cave temple of Narasimhaswami (CENSUS OF INDIA 1981 ed. 1985, series 2 Andhra Pradesh: Cuddapah part XIII, pages 23-24). ETYMOLOGY: Narasimha is a tiger- or lion-headed god who is suspected to engender an aboriginal god … worshipped in the caves and mountains of Orissa and Andhra (JAIN 2004: 10). SITUATION: In Sidhout taluk and near the village of Pennaperuru, which lies some furlongs [note 1] to the east of the road (generally ESE) from Sidhout (note 2) via Gangaperuru (note 3) to Vontimitta (note 4). The entrance to the cave itself is said to lie, literally quoted, on hill to the east of the village close to the stream (note 5). CAVE DESCRIPTION: There is a small cave temple of Narasimhaswami, on hill to the east of the village close to the stream. At the foot of the hill is a Kalyaaa Mandapam, made of stone, with a small Koneru and a banyan tree. There is another temple nearby.
