Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

At the base of the huge erratic boulder a small house is built inside and an adjoining 'open air' space offers another 10 square metres of sheltered floor. CULTURAL HISTORY - cave legend: According to BISHOP & BISHOP (1978: 9) a fierce demon once guarded the river crossing between Melamchi and Tarkeghyang, its sister village on the oppossing side of the Melamchi Khola. No crossing was made without payment of human lives. Accosted by the demon, Guru Rimpoche transformed the monster to a boulder, which now stands mute guard over the bridge (in Nepali pool) above the left (eastern) bank at Melamchipool.
