KATRA ROCK SHELTERS

A speleologically unexplored group of painted rock-shelters (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1982-83 / 1985: 135). SITUATION: Unknown. Apparently not only high above the orographically right (locally southern) banks of the Tons (river) but also on the northern rim of the Panna Plateau (Vindhyan Range) at a spot that lies at an unspecified distance of 10 km (either in a direct line or along a more or less winding route) and without any orientation whatsoever from the populated place Katra (note 1), which lies on the National Highway NH 27 at travelling distances of about 65 km (±10) SSW of Allahabad (note 2) and about 60 km (±10 km) north-east of Rewa (note 3).
