Description
What looked from the passing bus as if it were the entrance to a cave on »the other side of the road« saw Claude Chabert and Nicki Boullier in 1984 near a place called »Orvakal« (note 1) when travelling from Banaganpalle / Banganpalle (N15°19': E78°14') approximately north-west via Panem or »Panyam« (note 2) to Kurnool city (N15°50': E78°03').
NOTE 1: »Orvakal« (Claude Chabert 1984 personal communication) is not identified unless it corresponds to the »Varakallu« indicated near N15'40': E78°10' (Everest 1830): 350 m asl on the Survey of India sheet 57-i/02 and in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 101 C1) about 20 km (or so) approximately south-west from Kurnool along the National Highway NH 18 towards Nandyal (N15°29': E078°29'). NOTE 2: »Panyam« (Claude Chabert 1984 personal communication), »Paneum« (FOOTE, R B 1884a: 31), Panem N15°30': E78°21' (Everest 1830).
