Location
Mutanda zone, Buzi district, Sofala province. GPS (WGS84) S 19°55’25.3" / E 34°0731, 1’’, ca. 120 m asl. Surveyed on 2 Sept. 1999 by Artur Fernandes and Jens Römer (BCRA-Grade 2a). Length: 27,00 m. Vertical range: –16,70 m. The Pequena Xonondo caves are situated a few hundred meters S of the Xonondo caves.
Description
The entrance pit has a depth of just less than 17 m (SRT) and has a diameter of approximately 2 m on top. 6 m above the bottom the pit widens to a small chamber with a diameter of 3 x 10 m and a room height of 5 m. The bottom is covered by rocks. No bats were seen. Also no traces of fillings with conglomerate were found.
