Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

The Marwateri Cave (or rock shelter) seems to be a more watery cave as the Isco River is said to flow through (past?) the cave while either the -cave- itself or the river bed and its surrounds (IMAM 2001) yielded stone age tools of Lower and Middle Palaeolithic styles. SITUATION (after IMAM 2001): About 1 km approximately north-east from the Munda tribal village of Isco, Isro or Eisko (see: Koh Bara / Kohbara). ARCHAEOLOGY (IMAM 2001): Acheulian hand axes have been picked up from the bed of the Isco River, which flows through the Marwateri Cave. Borers, scrapers, strippers and hammerstones have been collected in large numbers in the cave and its surrounds. The deposit has been officially certified by the prehistory department of the Archaeological Survey of India (S.B. Ota, l995).
