BAGLI SPRING, 1st

Not necessarily a true resurgence (Brooks 2002.02.10 Mss: Bagli Resurgence) but a seasonal exsurgence which may represent the –>Bagli Resurgence of GODWIN AUSTEN 1869 (note 1) is said to have been blocked with embankment material during construction of the border road (note 2). ETYMOLOGY: Unidentified; -baghla- is the name of a kind of native boat (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 25: vi). SITUATION: Some 500 m east of the village of Bagli (note 3), the border road makes a large sweeping left-hand bend as the village is approached. Here, the two springs are located in the crook of the bend, and their locations were deduced from the obvious outflow channels at the foot of the embankment below the road. SPRING DESCRIPTION 2002: Both of the two Bagli springs are currently blocked by boulders that form the embankment upon which the border road runs. Below each resurgence is a 10 m wide outflow channel that would suggest wet season flow is significant. In both springs, the water clearly emergs at various locations through the boulders. Air current could be felt at some places. Attempts to penetrate the two exsurgences (2001.02.09) proved fruitless. Progress was made for 12 m into the boulders at Bagli Exsurgence no. 1 to reach what appeared to be a sump (Brooks, S J 2002.02.10 Mss: Bagli Resurgence). SPRING DESCRIPTIONS 2001: Simon, Lindsey and Julie, accompanied by Dominic and Sudeep drive to Bagli where they enquire about caves. Two resurgences are visited, but both prove to be blocked with embankment material placed during construction of the border road (Brooks, S J 2001 Mss MEGHD2001.doc). Zwei Resurgencen bei Bagli, von denen uns erzählt wurde, sind leider offenbar beim Bau der Border Road verschüttet worden (Jantschke 2001.02.09 Mss). SPRING DESCRIPTION 2003: Rakesh führt uns noch bis Bagli hinab, das wegen einer Festivität in Khunjoy nahezu ausgestorben ist. Die grosse Quelle in Bagli ist leider beim Bau der Grenzstraße mit großen Blöcken verlegt worden und ein Splt etwas östlich endet nach wenigen Metern (note 5] (Jantschke 2003.02.17 Mss: 2003 entry 17.2.03).s at various locations through the boulders.
