Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 23/03/2016

A man-made 'cave temple' (rock-cut chamber used for religious purposes), sort of letter "T" shaped in ground plan, reported IMPERIAL GAZETTEER (1907-1909, 8: 59) as a »curiously planned cave on Bijasan hill.« SITUATION: About 2.5 km approsimately south-west of Bhandak town (note 1). CAVE DESCRIPTION: A gallery is driven straight into the hill to a distance of 21.6 m, and at the end of it is a shrine containing a Buddha seated on a bench. Two galleries lead off at right angles to the first, and each has also a shrine and a statue.
