What appears to represent a subterranean watercourse -- possibly but not necessarily accessible -- described a contributor (note 1) as an underground water so called Chignap is said to run 3.5 miles [or 5632 m] underground and rise up to the surface again (MOMIN, P G 1984: 23). ETYMOLOGY: The noun -chi- is the Garo word for water (MASON, M C 1905: 185) and -chignap- was said to mean water flowing under (Blen Marak, Asakgre - Imandura, 2002.02.11 personal communication) and may signify a sink of water, sinkhole, insurgence, swallet. SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere near (in an unidentifiied spatial relation to) a populated place called Dapsi Toligiri (MOMIN 1984: 23) or Dapsi Tholegiri (note 2).
