NOTE 1: »Jamuna Prapat (Bee Fall): A spectacular fall in the stream which provides drinking water to Panchmarhi« (Tribune News Service 2002.09.15).

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 21/03/2016

A tunnel cave draining the Bee stream from an insurgence to a resurgence is situated at a distance of 3 km along the road from –>Pachmarhi (BANSAL circa 1998 s.a.) and upstream of Bee Dam, a pool, now called Jamuna Kund, which itself lies above the sightseeing spot Bee Fall, which was saffronised into a Jamuna Parbat (note 1) and is found in the stream that provides drinking water for the town of Pachmarhi (PACHMARHI GUIDE MAP 1996). APPROACH: »The road [to the waterfall] is nearly good and if you wish to walk on foot, it will prove to be a good idea. Take the road to Raj Bhawan [Government House ±250 m 22°28'00”N: 78°25'12”E] and turn right behind after passing the Bhawan« (BANSAL s.a., circa 1998). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1936: »The main stream which feeds the Bee Dam pool rises between Government House and Deep Dene. A short distance from its source it disappears underground, down a large depression or pot-hole and re-appeares some 150 feet lower. This underground passage is passable for a man crawling on all fours.« GLENNIE (1959: 33) reduces the hand & knees crawl to a full fledged crawl: »In Pachmarhi, "the main stream which forms the Bee Dam pool rises between Government House and Deep Dene. A short distance from its source it disappears underground, down a large depression and reappears some 150 ft. lower. This underground passage is passable for a man crawling". This quotation is given to show that though the local rock is sandstone natural caves do occur« (Glennie, E A circa 1948 s.a. Mss "Preliminary record" after GUIDE TO PACHMARHI 1936). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1948: »The Bee Dam stream rises between the Residency and Deep Deen House [sic!]. It then goes underground to reappear 150 feet lower« (CRAVEN, S A 1969: 27 after Glennie, E A circa 1948 s.a. Mss: Preliminary record). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2002: »Irene Pool … was discovered by Irene Bose, wife of Justice Vivian Bose, and named after her. The route upstream leads to a cave, through which the stream goes underground and then over a khud in a series of falls« (TRIBUNE NEWS SERVICE 2002.09.15).
