Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified peculiar characteristics) is said to give access to an unidentified cave (Welling Thabah, Pongtung Village Headman, 1998.11.01 personal communication). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi "u máw" is the word for »a stone« but "u máwbah" signifies not only »a big stone or rock« but also »a big ancestral bone repository or cairn« (SINGH, N 1906: 130). On the other hand, the Khasi "i mabah" is »a great or grand maternal uncle« and "ka mabah" means »a great battle« (SINGH, N 1906: 126). IDENTITY: A likewise unidentified cave was said to exist near the village of –>Mawkyrwat on the same road. SITUATION: At an unidentified location and in an unspecified spatial relation »near« a certain village of Mawbheh (note 2), which was said to lie on the road from Pynursla (N25°18'30”: E092°54') generally south-west towards the village of Nongjri (N25°11'28”: E091°47'38”: 380 m asl, WGS84) and Nongjri Bazar (N25°10'45”: E091°48'18”: 80 m asl WGS84).
