Location
The Wang Long gorge is on the south-west coast of Ko Phi Phi Don. This stunning canyon of 100 meters high limestone cliffs winds its way to inland to a small sandy beach. From the beach, a gorge heads south and then east for about 150 meters. The entrance is 35 meters up the vertical cliff.
Description
General description
Bird's-nests are harvested from the cave and the collectors climb to the top of the cliff and then pull bamboo ladders up to the entrance - the climb from below is very difficult and any ladders or ropes left by the birds'-nesters must be treated with caution. From the entrance, which has some old drawings of ships, the large passage trends eastwards with a 9 meters pitch after 100 meters and then passing an oxbow passage on the left after 150 meters and a 75 meters long side passage, also on the left, after 225 meters. The Ship Gallery, with a large number of ship drawings is 400 meters from the entrance. Just past the Ship Gallery a large river passage is met. There are more ship drawings in a passage heading north from a point 150 meters to the south-east along this river passage.
