Description
A trickle of water falls even in March (2012.03.02), the driest season of the year, down across the face (unidentified direction) of a sandstone bed (Rob_02_03_2012_Krem Lymbit_009.JPG), deposits some calcareous tufa, and disappears into an estimated up to 6 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance with gravitationally dislocated, angular boulders (note 1). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi noun -ka lymbit- (SINGH, N 1906: 124; BLAH, E 2007: 27) or -ka lyngbit- (SINGH, N 1920: 38), related to ”lymboit” (adjective) almost naked (SINGH, N 1906: 124), is not only the word fora bat (SINGH, N 1906: 124; BLAH, E 2007: 27) in the sense of a mainly nocturnal mammal capable of sustained flight, with membranous wings that extend between the fingers and connecting the forelimbs to the body and the hindlimbs to the tail (note 2), but also for the mica (SINGH, N 1906: 124), a shiny silicate mineral with a layered structure. SITUATION: Unknown -- probably either in the southern part of the East Khasi Hills or in the suth-eastern corner of the Jaintia Hills. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2012: Not seen.A trickle of water falls even in March (2012.03.02), the driest season of the year, down across the face (unidentified direction) of a sandstone bed (Rob_02_03_2012_Krem Lymbit_009.JPG), deposits some calcareous tufa, and disappears into an estimated up to 6 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance with gravitationally dislocated, angular boulders (note 1).
