Description
A 1 m wide collapsed cave entrance (Brooks 2006.02.15 Mss: Plank Pot) spends his life at foot of 4 m high cliff on hillside above Ravi Nadi --a far away river (note 1) some 9 km or 10 km in a direct line north-west from where the cave was GPS positioned. ETYMOLOGY: No cave name that would be known to anybody familiar with the area has been identified. Instead, the cave was nicknamed -Pot Plank- (in Khasi: Lyntang Thliew) in an attempt to arrive at a -Plank Pot- that could be khasified into a Thliew Lyntang (note 2). SITUATION 1 (Brooks 2006.02.15 Mss: -Plank Pot (Lyntang Thliew)- 15/2/2006): Approach as for Pol Lum Thymmai [i.e. Krem poh –>Lum Thymmei, Shnongrim] but some 200 m from former, follow faint path on crest of ridge instead of main footpath towards valley. SITUATION 2: According to the GPS positions recorded lies Plank Pot at linear distances of 268 m south-east from Krem poh –>Lum Thymmei. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Brooks 2006.02.15 Mss): 1 m dia collapsed entrance containing mud ad rocks is entered for 2 m to reach head of a tight rift going down for approximately circa 20-30 m. TACKLE: More than 30 m rope and belays would be required to have a look at the initial part of the rift pot. PROSPECTS: Brooks (2006.02.15 Mss) reckons minimal (note 3) as it is tight. CAVE CLIMATE: At an unspecified hour on 15th February 2006 there was a noteworthy lack of air current (air flow), which Brooks (2006.02.15 Mss) recorded as no draught.A 1 m wide collapsed cave entrance (Brooks 2006.02.15 Mss: Plank Pot) spends his life at foot of 4 m high cliff on hillside above Ravi Nadi --a far away river (note 1) some 9 km or 10 km in a direct line north-west from where the cave was GPS positioned.
