Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to an apparently seasonal spring of water which rises from perennially flooded cave passages (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday). WORLD RECORD: The cave and spring recorded as Krem Srung (or so) is about the shallowest active streamcave passage that ever was free-dived (apnoe) by grown up humans. This record breaking feat was achieved simply by substituting common sense with slavish submission to putatively precise digital surveying techniques resulting in a maximally accurate (grade Xc) calculated vertical range of mere ±0.11 m (+0 m / -0.11 m) (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx). ETYMOLOGY: The origin, history and meaning of the recorded cave name Krem Synrung (Kharpran Daly, B D 2014.01.11 Mss) has not been identified (note 1). S far merely the following five cave name versions were by and by created, namely Krem … Synrung, Khlaw Prang Kharpran Daly, B D (2014.01.11 Mss: Expedition 2014) Srung, Prang River anonymous Brooks, S J et al. (2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday) Srung Resurgence anonymous Brooks, S J et al. (2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday) Srung (Prang Area) Anonymous (2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls) Srung Prang Arbenz, T 2014.11.10 disguised as -S.Brooks- (2014.02.13) survey data file: Srung Prang_02.Text; Arbenz, T (2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx). The so-called -resurgence- is probably rather an exsurgence (spring of water) or, in Khasi, -[ka] umpohliew- (note 2) than a mixed up -shiteng jaid- or mongrel. SITUATION 2014.01.10: Somewhere in a Khlaw Prang or forest (note 3) on the Prang River (note 4). SITUATION 2014.04.05: Somewhere in the vicinity of a so-called the Khia-prang beach (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss), which probably is rather a levee or landing known as Khie Prang or, perhaps, Khieh Prang (note 5) and lies above one or the other bank of a stream of water which has been recorded as Umdohkha (note 6) but is known as Umdakha (note 7) and represents a tributary to the orographically right (locally north) bank of the Sehshympa (Khasi), the historical Anglo-Indian's Prang River (note 8). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.01.11: Big river cave? (Kharpran Daly, B D 2014.01.11 Mss: Expedition 2014). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.05: The known part of the cave consists of an entrance passage / duck that after 4 m opened into a 3 m by 5 m chamber and the extend of the cave survey proved to be a mere 13.68 m in length (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.29: Resurgence, breakdown chamber with a dive in from Prang River (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cve record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx).PROSPECTS 2014.04.29: The speleotopographical progress was relinquished and declared finished (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx).CAVE POTENTIAL: Little doubt remains that this seasonal spring of water is a diving spot where Richard base-fed a line while Simon tried to free-dive into the reported continuation. Several attempts proved that all ways on were underwater including a long duck that Richard attempted to pass without success (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss). CAVE LIFE: Khlur Mukhim went by boat to catch … [faunal] specimens and potentially lethal puffer fish [note 9] was part of the collection whist Mon Pamblang and Nipol Pohlong attempted to hunt fish with spears but instead hit a kingfisher [note 10] for evening protein (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday).ia-prang beach (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. Bibliography 06/01/2018Histoire
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2014.01.10: Brian Dermot Kharpran Daly had collected a few [eight] cave names during the half hour I had with [an unidentified] the headman (no name mentioned) at Kharkhana village [N25°09': E092°13']: Krem Lymbiat, Krem Blah, Krem Ryngkoh, Krem Khlaw Am, Krem Katdin. Thangsah village: Krem Um War. Pasadwar village: Krem Chki. Khlaw Prang: Krem Synrung (big river cave?). Lama village: caves there too (Kharpran Daly, B D 2014.01.11 Mss).2014.02.13: Simon J Brooks, Fraser E. Simpson, Richard Hudson, Khlur Mukhim, and Tudor Tamsa left camp [Kharkhana] at 10 a.m. from which they were transported by Scorpio car … up to Amhi (Umdohkha) bridge to be picked up by Mon Pamblang and Nepol Pohlong, two boatmen / guides at about 12.30 pm. Packraft came very handy to carry most of the luggage, attached to the rear end of the boat as a tender. Despite this there were at times less than 3 cm of freeboard. It took almost five hours to travel upstream as for each set of rapids riffels) the Packraft tender had to be unloaded and equipment carried to the next boatable area by the team. Eventually the Krem Srung was reached and shortly after this the Khlia-prang beach where the team camped for the night. After unloading the luggage and pitching the tents, the team went to explore Krem Srung as it went dusk. Simon and Richard entered the cave first and while Richard base-fed a line Simon tried to free-dive into the reported continuation. Several attempts proved that all ways on were underwater including a long duck that Richard attempted to pass without success. Simon, Fraser and Tudor then surveyed the cave … The team then returned to the camp. After dinner (instant noodles), Khlur went by boat to catch biological specimens. Puffer fish was part of the collection. Mon Pamblang and Nepol Pohlong were looking for fish with their spears but instead hit a kingfisher for evening protein (modified after anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 204 Second Edit: 13th February, Thursday).
