Description
A sacred cave (a natural temple cave or man-made cave temple) of unspecified character, origin and dimensions (note 1) contains the image of the Brahmin saint Mandavya Mahamuni who is supposed by the local people to have lived here (GLENNIE, E A 1951c: 7 after HEMINGWAY, F R 1907: 287). SITUATION (note 2): Unknown. Somewhere near Jaddangi (note 3) or »Jaddanji« (CRAVEN, S A 1969: 22), a village which lies at a linear distance of 15 km or 16 km east of Addatigela (note 4). CAVE POTENTIAL: Other caves in the area of Addatigala (Addatigela) and Jaddangi are the cave at –>Ramavaram and the cave of –>Virabhadra Swami.
NOTE 1: This cave, which is, perhaps, a natural sacred cave (temple cave) or man-made 'cave temple' (rock-cut chamber used for religious purposes), contains the image of the Brahmin saint Mandavya Mahamuni who is supposed by the local people to have lived here (HEMINGWAY, F R 1907: 287). GLENNIE (1951c: 7) positions Jaddangi (in Yellavaram Division) on »sheet 65 K/4 Lat. 17°.5 Long. 82.0°« (17°30'N: 82°00'E, probably approximate Everest 1830). NOTE 4: Addatigala is positioned near 17°29'N: 82°01'E (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) and shown near 17°29'N: 82°01'E on AMS sheet NE44-11 Samalkot (1963 edition).
