Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape perhaps rectangular, unidentified dimensions perhaps a metre wide and 4 m high, unidentified orientation, unidentified peculiar characteristics) is said to give access to a rift cave passage of unidentified origin, which has been estimated to be a metre wide, 4 m high and an estimated 10 m long, and seems to have formed in a kind of host rock which was interpreted as a kind of sandstone (note 1) and probably represents part of the calcareous shales, sandy limestones and fine calcareous sandstones (Roy Chowdhury 1974) of the Upper Cretaceous (Upper Maestrichtian) to Lower Palaeocene (Bhattacharya & Bhattacharya 1978) or Danian (Mathur & Evans 1964) Langpar (Medlicott 1869) Formation. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what outsiders simply christened Beehive Cave because b) -beehive- is the English word for a domed structure whilst a) the cave is a comparatively narrow and relatively lon rift cave c) there once had been in the February of the year 2000 a nest of bees on the way to the cave entrance. SITUATION: On the border with Bangladesh and in an inexplicable spatial relation near the village of Um Krem [sic! qua: Um Karam] and not associated with the stream Um Krem [note 2], which as you know is to the north of Dowki (Boyes, P W 2000.07.21 personal correspondence). APPROACH: Elvidge, E (2000.02.19 Mss: Beehive Cave) suggests to reach the entrance to this anonymous cave from the village of Um Krem or Umkaram [note 3] by following a road east towards the small border town of Dowki or Dauki (note 4): After approximately 2K follow dirt track south to Bangladesh border where a bridge [without GPS position] crosses a stream [without identified name]. Close to bridge is a waterfall [without identified name or size] adjacent to the cave (note 5). CAVE LIFE: On 19th February 2000 Lizzie [Elizabeth] Elvidge (2000.02.19 Mss: Beehive Cave) saw a relatively large [note 6] bee*$s nest (note 7) of unidentified size. rift cave c) there once had been in the February of the year 2000 a nest of bees on the way to the cave entrance.
