NOVARA BAY HONEY-COMB
8.516700,93.600000
Description
An entirely unspecified kind of »evidence of recent uplift is seen … in the cliff 25 feet [7.6 m] high of cream-coloured honey-combed limestone very similiar to that found at Hut Bay [note 1] … This occurs on the west coast near Novara Bay« (GEE, E R 1926: 229-230) and may represent relics of wave-cut notches or sea caves currently above the reach of tides. SITUATION: »Novara Bay« (GEE, E R 1926) or »Narara Bay« (India Road Atlas 2006, Eicher Goodearth: map 123 G3) lies in the northern third of the west coast on the island of Tillanchang Dwip (Survey of India 1996 District Planning Map "Nicobar" quadrangle H6) or »Tillanchung Island« and »Tillanchung Dwip« (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 123 G3).
NOTE 1: »At the northern point of Hut Bay [Little Andaman Island, east coast, southern third] a dissected promotory of steep cliffs of white and cream-coloured foraminiferal limestone forms a striking feature of this south-eastern coast. No definite stratification is observed, the rock surface weathering in honey-comb form« (GEE, E R 1926: 226-227, plate 13).
