SAHSNIANG, Brishyrnot (Krem)

An unspecified cave called Krem Sahsniang in the vicinity of the village of Brishyrnot has not yet been identified. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the Synteng Khasi (Pnar) cave name -Krem Sahsniang- (Kharpran Daly, B D 2004.07.18 Mss) seems to refer to the abode of a pig or two (note 1), zoologically: Suidae (family): Sus domesticus (with many varieties), an omnivorous domesticated hoofed mammal with sparse bristly hair and a flat snout for rooting in the soil, kept for its meat and shrill shrieks squealed in terror at death's door. SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere in the vicinity of the village of Brishirnot (Kharpran Daly 2004.07.18 Mss) or Brishyrnot (note 2). APPROACH: Arrange for a pompous vehicle and travel in style from Lumshnong (25°10'45”N: 92°22'50”E) some 7 km along the National Highway NH44 generally south to what had been in February 1997 an inconspicuous road-fork (note 3). Turn off south-east and proceed some 3 km or 4 km along what had been i February 1997 a partly motorable dirt road approximately south-east and towards Khaddum (note 4). Arrive here at the populated area of Brishyrnot and find yourself lost or run into a person who is familiar with the area and not only willing but also able to instruct you how to proceed to the cave entrance of Krem Sahsniang (or so).
