Unspecified »rock shelters« (or true caves?) of archaeological interest yielded early Stone Age tools (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1971 - 1972) at a place called »Gharava« (note 1) somewhere »within a radius of 10 km from Datia town« (note 2). Compare the –>Badoni (Barauni, Baroni) Shelters.
NOTE 1: »Gharava« (GOSH 1989, 2) seems to be indicated as »Gharawa« near N25°36': E078°32' on AMS sheet NG44-09 Jhansi (U502 series, 1958 edition). NOTE 2: Gharava / Gharawa lies at a linear distance of about 10 km approximately south-west of Datia (N25°40': E078°28'): »… on the Gwalior - Jhansi road, 16 miles [26 km along the road north-east] from the latter place, and on the Midland branch of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, 718 miles [1155 km] from Bombay [saffronized Mumbai]; 980 feet [280 m] above sea-level … The town is built on a series of low hills …« (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 11: 199).
