Description
A group of 53 man-made rock-cut chambers (BURGESS & FERGUSSON 1880 edited1988: 213-217, plate V fig.2, plate VI) were excavated Upper Cretaceous to Lower Eocene volcanic Deccan Trap Basalt. SITUATION 1 (BURGESS 1883: 20-22): At Karad, about 50 km south-east of Satara (N17°41': E73°59'). SITUATION 2 (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 15: 19-20): About 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Karad town (N17°17': E74°12').
