An unfinished Buddhist chaitya cave (man-made rock chamber used for religious purposes) deemed WEST (1861a: 14 item 62) on stylistic reasons (similar columns) to be contemporary with the likewise unfinished vihara cave –>Kanheri Cave 27 on the opposite side of the hill at Kánheri. CAVE LIFE: BROSSET (1962a: 11) reports a colony (estimated 100 to 200) of the Fulveous fruit bats (Chiroptera: Megachiroptera: Pteropidae: Rousettus leschenaulti Desmarest 1820) at Kanheri Cave No. 1 … Ancient Buddhist cave carved in rock, in a forested area of Salsette Island.
