NOTE 1: The Synteng Khasi (Pnar) "tyr" may represent a version of the standard Khasi "tàr" (verb) »to tear; to rend« (SINGH, N 1904: 220) but "u tyr-a" (Khasi; noun), also spelled ”Tirra” (HOOKER, J D 1854-1855, 2: 268 footnote: after Mr. Inglis); is one of the names of »bamboo« (HOOKER, J D 1854-1855, 2: 268 footnote after Mr. Inglis), that is to say »a small species of bamboo« (SINGH, N 1906: 240); in Bengali "nol-bas" (SINGH, N 1906: 240); Botanically: Gramineae (citation needed).ngai (Khasi; adverb); »languidly; smoothly« (SINGH, N 1920: 283, 480)."ba ngai" (Khasi; adjective) or "ba ngai-ngai" (SINGH, N 1904: 77) has not only been translated as »very; soundly (sweet or sleepy)« (SINGH, N 1904: 77) but also as »abysmal« (SINGH, N 1920: 4)."ka rngái" (Khasi; noun, feminine) »an apparition; a ghost; a wraith« (BLAH, E 2007: 16, 116, 335); "u (ha-) rngái (Khasi; noun, masculine) »an illusion or dream; a hallucination« (SINGH, N 1904: 172); a »spectre« (BLAH, E 2007: 282).

A cave entrance of unidentified shape (about a metre large), faces an unidentified direction and leads to cave chamber (6 m by 3 m) which contains secondary calcite formations (speleothems) and continuations identified as crawls leading to smaller cave chambers of unknown size and nature. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the Synteng Khasi (Pnar) cave name "Krem Umtyrngai" (Bäumler G 1999.02.15 after Alfred Lanong, Lumshnong) has not been identified but may refer to a "krem" or cave on an "um" or stream of water specified by a weak or smooth variety of bamboo (note 1). SITUATION: Unknown. Somewhere less than a kilometre south-east from the churches in the village of Lumshnong (25°10'46”N: 92°22'49”E) and -- possibly but not necessarily -- at about halfway on the way to Krem –>Liat Hati near (±200 m) 25°10'37”N: 92°22'34”E (WGS84). PROSPECTS: Apparently moderate but unbending people tend tend to dislike uncomfortable continuations. So far, an estimated 100 m of cave passage was seen.
