Approximately two or three caves on the road, which afford shelter to benighted travellers, much the same as at Kângnee (HERVEY 1853, 2: 163-164) probably consist of more or less inhabitable rockshelters. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for two or three caves on the road from the village of Shalamâr to Kishtawâr (note 1).SITUATION: Above the east (orographically left) bank of the Chundra-Bhâga (HERVEY 1853) or Chandra Bhaga (the upper reaches of the Chenab River) between –>Kangnee and the village of Shalamâr (note 2): 4th June, 1851. Wednesday … The valley of the Chundra-Bhâga from the Jhoola I crossed yesterday, to near Shalamâr (where yesterday's march quits the banks of the river), is very narrow, and almost entirely devoid of villages and cultivation. The hills rise rather abruptly above the river, and are covered either with bush-wood and low jungle, or thickly wooded with fine forest trees, and capped with snow.
