Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A disconnected, relic cave passage (abandoned by flowing water), which had been accidentally exposed by quarrying (before 2001.03.15), is by now most likely lost. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi -ka snap- is a relic; remaining articles (SINGH, N 1906: 206). SITUATION: In the valley of the river Arli, about 700 m west of the Office and Guest House, and in the working face (spring 2001) of the Komora Limestone Mining Company (KLMC) quarry but about 50 m in one way or another above the 1st Cave (note 1). APPROACH: The entrance to the 2nd cave had been reached by walking halfway up a hill, then by turning into an unidentified direction towards left (sic!) and to the edge of a limestone quarry, where an exposed 2 m climb down to a scree slope led to the cave entrance. CAVE DESCRIPTION: A 1 m wide and 1.5 m high cave entrance gave access to a mostly walking sized rift cave passage, about 30 m long and 6 m deep, with a few secondary calcite formations (speleothems). CAVE LIFE: Crickets.A disconnected, relic cave passage (abandoned by flowing water), which had been accidentally exposed by quarrying (before 2001.03.15), is by now most likely lost.
