Description
A slippery 3 m climb down leads into a single chamber cave with a soil-covered floor that descends approximately southwards to a funnel shaped hollow in soil (estimated 8 m below the cave entrance) and to a narrow (enterable?) rift high up in the distal corner, at an estimated maximal penetration distance of about 40 m (or so) approximately south from the entrance. SITUATION: In what was in April 1994 a sugar cane plantantion on the south-western side of a footpath descending from Siju Damokgithim (N25°21'30”: E090°39'42” WGS84, the upper Siju village on the road) down to Siju Hat (N25°21'05”: E090°41'05” (WGS84, one of the three lower Siju villages). Right across the mouth of the cave passed a double inch diameter waterpipe that was painted in black colour with the largest possible one-inch letters saying »VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN« --as if warning not to fall accidentally into the gaping hole. BROOKS & SMART (1995: 35) have the first of their three »Footpath Pot and Caves(s)« to be »found by the side of the footpath connecting Upper and Lower Siju villages immediately below Middle Siju village.«

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1980 April: H. D. Gebauer walked from the Fishery Deepartment's hut at Siju Hat (one of the three lower Siju villages) to Siju Damukgithim (upper Siju), passing a pothole cave entrance en route. 1994.02.16: H. D. Gebauer guided Simon J. Brooks, Jennifer 'Jenni' or 'Jenny' A. Brooks, Christopher M. Smart, Rob and Helen Harper to the entrance. Simon J. Brooks entered, explored, exited and sketched from memory --perhaps the first croqui in his lifetime-- into HDG's book»Morning spent investigating area of hillside between Middle and Upper Siju villages looking for caves« (Brooks, S J in: BROOKS, S J et al 1998: 18).
