Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) in an unidentified rock gave access to what was seen through the lense of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology as a rock-shelter with paintings (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 50-52, table) and may consist of the visitable or inhabitable and daylight-lit part of a true cave with a dark zone. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for this cave or rock-shelter (rock shelter, rockshelter) called after the name of the village of Ghagharia. SETTING: In the Kaimur range and in a certain mid-Son Valley above one or the other bank of the river Son. SITUATION: At an unspecified distance of 12 km either in a direct line ENE or along a more or less winding route approximately east-northeast (IAR 1979-80 / 1983: 50) of Sihawal (note 1) and, presumably, above the orographically left (locally northern) ank of the Son River not far (less than 5km WNW) from the confluence of the Gopad / Gopat River (24°33'N: 82°20'E). CULTURAL HISTORY -- rock art: Paintings in ochre, blood-red and white pigments (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 50).
