Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unspecified subterranean gallery of natural or man-made origin, which is said to be miles long and containing passages (fabulous tunnels?) arriving from all quarters, reported NOBEL (1952: 53) from Batakhut (note 1), a village above the east (orographic left) bank of Liddar River, on the way to Pahalgam in the Liddar Valley, and below the Nagabal near N33°55'30”: E075°18'30” (AMS sheet NI43-11 Anantnag). Genia Nobel, inspite of using a lamp, observed nothing remarkable except a dark, narrow gallery. Considering that six lines relating to the cave adventure (note 2) are followed by 17 lines describing her tent, her -gallery- at Batakut is possibly but not necessarily a traveller's tale (note 3) concocted from set-scenes quarried from hearsay information about the cave of Bhima Devi at Bawan and the ever popular fabulous tunnels of Kelaroos.
