Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A natural cave in sandstone: A square entrance (2 by 2 m) to ascending 4 m across fallen boulder and soil leads to a spacious rift (2 m wide, 4 m high) crossing at right angles. The right-hand side ends after 5 m in an impenetrable fissure, the onward direction ascends steeply to solid collapse, and the left-hand side ascends to a second entrance higher up. There are no flow forms, no secondary calcite deposits, no obvious cave life. SITUATION: West of –>Pachmarhi on the southern side of Monte Rosa Hill (in Hindi: Astachal Pahar, the -Laughing Mountain-) and at a linear distance of 3.97 km at 263° from the seven way junction (note 1) Jaistambha / Jai Stambh (victory pillar). APPROACH: To reach the cave entrance, take the fair weather road from the airstrip via the Bee Fall Gate (note 2) towards –>Bee Fall, etc. The cave lies about five vertical metres above (left, north) the road to Duchess Fall (saffronised: Jalawataran) and a few hundred metres behind the road fork to –>Dorothy Deep.A natural cave in sandstone: A square entrance (2 by 2 m) to ascending 4 m across fallen boulder and soil leads to a spacious rift (2 m wide, 4 m high) crossing at right angles.
