Not mines but mis-read ruins (note 1) are indicated in the 2004 reproduction (note 2) of FOSTER (1873): AUGUST 1st [1868], Saturday. — To Wangut [note 3] … I have come here for the purpose of visiting some mines [sic!] two miles further on [note 4], and I intend to halt to-morrow and walk to see them.
