Allegedly several or one single rock-shelter (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 69) or daylight-lit rock shelter if not the visitable (inhabitable, investigable) entrance area of a true, dark cave. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for this rock-shelter (rock shelter, rockshelter) called after the name of the nearby populated place (village) of T-Kallupatti (IAR 1979-80 / 1983: 69). SITUATION: Unknown (note 1). In an unidentified setting and at an unspecified location at a spot that lies in an unidentified spatial relation to a certain T-Kallupatti (IAR 1979-80 / 1983: 69). CULTURAL HISTORY -- archaeology: Excavation in a rock-shelter and the habitation at the foot of the hill revealed two phases of occupation … Megalithic, beads of terracotta; copper objects (pin or antimony rod); microlithic tools; pottery (shards, sherds, potsherds of hand-made dull red ware; russet-coated white painted ware); semi-precious stones (rok-crystal; glass), and an object with bird motif probably part of a knob or finial of a lid; and iron pieces (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 69).k-crystal; glass), and an object with bird motif probably part of a knob or finial of a lid; and iron pieces (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 69).

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1979 - 1980: Shri L. K. Srinivasan of the Southern Circle of the Survey [Archaeological Survey of India, ASI] undertook a small-scale excavation, in continuation of the previous season's (1976-77, p. 46) work with the view to probe into the undisturbed locality of the megalithic habitational area and to assess its relationship, if, any, with the rock-shelters in the close proximity.
