Description
»Thur Udiar … at a height of about 13,000 feet … is represented [on the G.T.S. map] as being close to the glacier [note 1], but it is now at least 500 yards below it« (MUMM 1909: 169 edited 2010: 76).
NOTE 1: The »glacier« (MUMM 1909 edited 2010: 76) »called by the Gamsali people Banke Gal« (MUMM 1909: 167 edited 2010: 75) is indicated as »Bankund Gal« on the AMS sheet NH44-06 Nanda Devi (U502 series, 1958 edition).

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1907.07.07: Tom Longstaff, Arnold Louis Mumm, Major C. G. Bruce (5th Gurkha Rifles), Moritz Inderbinen (Zermatt), Alexis Bocherel and Henri Bocherel (Courmayuer), assisted by unacknowledged guides and »coolies« (porters) from the village of Gamsali (N30°45': E079°50') »… arrived at Thur Udiar, and camped there« (MUMM 1909: 169 edited 2010: 76) before proceeding to –>Eri Udiar.
