Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A 1 m by 2 m hole in ground behind huts 8 m from road (Boycott 2002.03.05 Mss) leads to a muddy 4 m slope descending into a rift (2 m wide 3 m deep, limestone blades, sandstone roof) that runs after about 10 m into a choke (Harper 2002.04.31 Mss -megahlay.doc- # 17) where the presence of No prospects were observed. ETYMOLOGY: The recorded cave name -Krem Sodoit- (Harper, undated 2001.04.31 Mss) makes no sense (note 1) unless it is a corruption of a -Krem Wah Duit- or Streamlet Cave (note 2). SITUATION: Behind shacks in a small hamlet (locally called Mawkhlain, after a strong, coarse, or rough rock) that lies about a kilometre south from the village of Mawlong and the limestone quarries along the road downhill to Tyllap Bazar (also: Mairang Bazar; obsolete: Thilap, Tyllab Bazar). CULTURAL HISTORY: The cave is said to have been used on 7th February 2002 as a rubbish dump (note 3).A 1 m by 2 m hole in ground behind huts 8 m from road (Boycott 2002.03.05 Mss) leads to a muddy 4 m slope descending into a rift (2 m wide 3 m deep, limestone blades, sandstone roof) that runs after about 10 m into a choke (Harper 2002.04.31 Mss -megahlay.doc- # 17) where the presence of No prospects were observed.
