Description
A couple of man-made, soil-sunken pits used as troglodyte 'cave' dwellings / settlements, souterraines or Erdställe) indicate DUBEY & SINGH (1994 fig. 7) as »Caves« on the map of (the hill sanctuary) Kamadgiri Kshetra. The undergrounds are excavated from Quaternary / sub-recent alluvial sediments (silt, sand) exposed between the northern (left) bank of Paisuni (also: Payasvini, Mandakini) nadi / nala / river and the southernmost spur of the sacred hill Kamadgiri / Kamadagiri in the east of –>Chitrakoot (also: Chitrakut) town (PWD near N25°10'25": E080°52'10" Everest 1830: 150 m asl). Some (most?) of these underground chambers (e.g. one near N25°09'51.7”: E080°51'01.9”) are hidden, not unlike cellars, below inconspicuous huts.
