Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A climb down through gaps between gravitationally dislocated boulders leads to a relatively small cave chamber (up to 2 m wide and high, 5 m long, 250°) with a tiny 2 m crawl to a second cave entrance in the north. SITUATION: The underground void lies at a walking distance of 10 minutes north-east of Longkhum village, which itself lies 30 minutes by car in a southerly direction from the town of Mokokchung (N26°20': E094°32'). ETYMOLOGY & CAVE LIFE: The Ao 'funzen' appears to be a binturong (Carnivora: Feloidea: Viverridae: Paradoxurinae: Arctictis binturong Raffles 1821: 253, race in India: Paradoxurus albifrons F. Cuvier 1822: 44, 48). In Assamese it is called -young-, and in Burmese -myouk kya-.
