Description
Coal miners and were shocked by the strong wind (air draught, air current) emitting from the hole they broke by chance into a natural cave (Kharpran Daly, Brian D. 2006.03.10 after Welcome Dkhar, Iawpyngkat, Khliehriat, phone 9436 115 342). SITUATION: At an unidentified location somewhere at in the vicinity of Khliehriat (N25°21'15”: E092°22'18” probably Everest 1830, RAJA RAO 1981: 75), the coal mining town south of Jowai (25°27'N: 92°12'E) on the National Highway NH44 from Shillong (25°34'N: 91°53'E) via Sonapur (25°06'45”N: 92°22'00”E) to Agartala (23°50'11”N: 91°16'30”E) in Tripura State. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi -ka khlieh- is the head, the top (SINGH, N 1906: 33) and ka riat- means a precipiece, a cliff (SINGH, N 1906: 172).
