Description
A 5 m wide and high cave entrance gives access to a 5 m wide, 5 m high and 20 m long cave chamber partitioned by a wall of calcite deposits (stalagmite speleothems) running along its centre line. At the far end of the divided entrance chamber, a linear and level rift passage, about 50 m long, is interupted by a small double right-angle bend half way in. The main rift and lateral cleft-controlled passages (about 40 m long) successively grow smaller while gaining distance from the cave entrance. A 60 by 75 cm big calcite boss (speleothem), which rests in the first passage branching to the right, gives off a metallic sound when patted with the palm of the hand. ETYMOLOGY: "swami" is a »title of respect meaning 'lord of the self'; given to initiated Hindu monks« (LONELY PLANET, India 2005: 1112). SITUATION: In a picturesque area in the Nallamalai (note 1) and at a distance of »14 km« (?) along roads in an unspecified direction (east or so) from Nandyal (note 2), beyond (upstream) the natural bridge –>Vulleda Malleswara, north of a temple dedicated to Malaishvara (Malaishwara / Malleshvara / Malleshwara; Lord of the Hills, Shiva) and at a height of approximately 20 m above the level of an unidentified stream bed (no name known).
