Description
A relatively small resurgence (Tyler 2001.05.01 Mss: -Makkre Kol- dated 29/05/01) with a lower and an upper (daylight window) cave entrance without known name (note 1). ETYMOLOGY: The pseudo-Garo cave name Makkre Kol (not known to anybody familiar with the area) reflects an attempt to -garofy- the British field name Monkey Cave (note 2). SITUATION: On the right / western (or left / eastern?) bank of Mahadeo nala, and about 500 m upstream of the -Blue Lagoon- (in Garo: Tangsim Chiwari or Tsangsim Chiwari), a larger pool of inexplicable size that lies at an unknown distance halfway along the motorable fair weather road from the forest headquarters at Balpakram to the Jawaharlal Nehru Helipad. Here, a path of unknown length to the right descends without direction to a spot in the Mahadeo River valley, where there is a large pool of relative dimensions on the right (downstream?). Some 500 m upstream (north?) are three obvious entrances in a line of the left without any indication of theirposition in relation to the river. CAVE DESCRIPTION: The lower entrance 2.5x2.5 m is at river level the passage is sandy with a stream on the right and a unexplored passage which runs parallel to the valley. The 6x5x35 m passage sollows the stream which out of a sump the passage swings away and decreases to 2x3 m before belling out at a crossroads, left closes down, ahead goes under a bridge to a chamber with a daylight shaft. Right the passage continues 4x5x60 m past gours and a large cross passage to a choke. CAVE POTENTIAL - Prospects: One unexplored passage. CAVE LIFE: Unspecified monkeys (note 3) are suspected to use upper cave entrance for shelter.A relatively small resurgence (Tyler 2001.05.01 Mss: -Makkre Kol- dated 29/05/01) with a lower and an upper (daylight window) cave entrance without known name (note 1).
