Description
A relative »big rock cave« (TREKKER'S GUIDE 1978: 13) with unidentified dimensions is said to be used during the grazing season as a stable for approximately 100 sheep. SITUATION: In an unspecified spatial relation »at« (sic!) Sharach, about 10 km (or 10 miles?) in a direct line (or along a route?) south-east of Manali (N32°16': E077°10'), or at walking distance of 3 km from »Bhanara« or Banhara (note 1) above Jagatsukh (note 2) and Prini (note 3). CAVE POTENTIAL: Somewhere nearby is –>Arjun Gufa, Manali.
NOTE 1: »Bhanara« (TREKKER'S GUIDE 1978: 11) is not shown on the Survey of India 1: 250,000 sheet 52-H (1973 edition) but indicated as »Banhara« near N32°12': E077°12' on AMS sheet NI43-16 Palampur (U502 series, 1963 edition) in an area high above the left (eastern) bank of the river Beas and above the right (northern) bank of the Duhangan Nala. NOTE 2: Jagatsukh (on the road below Banhara?) or »Jadadsukh« (LAL 1985) and »Juggut Sookh« (HERVEY 1853: 73) is not shown on AMS sheet NI43-16 but positioned at N32°12': E077°12' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003), which indicates a spot 8.15 km in a direct line SSE from Manali (N32°16': E77°10'): »Ten or eleven kilometres from Manali lies the cave close to the village of Jagadsukh and not far from the Mountaineering Institute.« The LONELY PLANET (1990: 212) places »Jagatsukh about … 6 km south of Manali.« NOTE 3: The »Prini« of TREKKER'S GUIDE (1978: 11) and LONELY PLANET (1990: 213; 1993: 284: »5 km from Manali«) lies on the road south to Naggar (Nagar, N32°06': E077°09'30”) and is marked Parini near N32°12'30": E077°11'30" on the Survey of India 1: 250,000 sheet 52-H (1973 edition) and on AMS sheet NI43-16 Palampur (U502 series, 1963 edition) at a spot about 2 km north-west of Banhara. Neither Parini nor Prini is listed on nima.mil/geonames (accessed 16.11.2003).
