KOKETHANTI (Cave at)
28.666700,83.600000
Description
Rather a daylight lit rock shelter than a cave with much of a dark zone, with a possible climb into a steeply ascending rift which was not pushed to a conclusion. SITUATION: In the the forested shoulder above the hamlet of Kokethanti (or Koketani, a fast growing way-side village on the left = eastern bank of Kali Gandaki river) which lies between Larjung and Kalopani. If the cave entrance is seen from the trail some 60 vertical metres below, depends on the state of vegetation and deforestation. CAVE POTENTIAL: The site is possibly a place of some archaeological relevance and might yield stone age finds. The sheltered, habitable and wide open cave entrance faces south-west, overlooks the valley below and offers a spacious sheltered area with an almost level sediment floor.
